Tennesseans Understand Health Care Law Better than the Democrats in Washington

I am never surprised at the wisdom of the people of Tennessee. Recently, the Tennessean and other media outlets conducted a poll to gauge the support of Tennesseans for the health care law. The results speak volumes for the failure of the Obama Administration to listen to the people. Fifty-seven percent of registered voters surveyed said they oppose the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Only 30 percent said they support it.

Vice President Biden Continues the "Blame Game"

Last Friday, Vice President Biden delivered his speech to the Tennessee Democratic Party’s annual Jackson Day dinner. For some strange reason the Vice-President chose to rally party activists by defending what most Americans agree are enormous failings of their first 18 months in office – the Obama Administration’s economic and foreign policies. He would have been better off keeping the focus of his talking points on politics.

The Vice-President Visits Tennessee

Vice-President Joe Biden is in Nashville today to keynote the Tennessee Democratic Party’s annual Jackson Day event. Tennesseans are known for their good manners and graciousness and so we welcome the Vice-President to our state. I can’t help but think, however, that it would have been better if he had come to visit immediately after the catastrophic floods that devastated Nashville and the surrounding areas, instead of waiting until today, when there’s a fundraiser and checks to be picked up. Funny that he scheduled this keynote speech 44 days before the Tennessee floods, but is now billing his trip as a “flood damage tour.”

Sign My Petition Today: Cut Spending Now

Americans know that spending is out of control. With a deficit of over thirteen trillion dollars, the American people have told Washington “stop spending money we don’t have.” It is time for Congress to cut spending across the board, with the exception of three areas, the Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security.

If we don’t act now, we all know that our children and grandchildren will be left to figure out a way to deal with an unsustainable debt. The future of our nation is at stake. I have launched a Petition to rally 10,000 citizens who agree that spending must be cut now. We all know that we must have across the board cuts, rather than line item budget cuts. I am proposing an across the board cut to all spending. I need your support to pressure Speaker Pelosi to move my proposal to the floor.

Will you sign my petition today? And then ask your friends and family to do so as well?

SIGN MY PETITION TODAY!!

A few weeks ago Vice President Biden announced a six week long campaign to promote the Obama Administration’s claim that “the Recovery Act is working.” The Vice President said “we never thought that $787 billion was going to fill the hole dug by the recession that was created by the policies of the last administration.”

Blackburn Statement On Financial Reform Bill

Washington: Congressman Marsha Blackburn (TN-7) made the following remarks on the Financial Reform Bill, which the House is expected to vote on tonight. Blackburn intends to vote “No” on final passage of the bill.

“This big government attempt to end the cycle of boom and bust produces a new cycle of fraud and bailout. I oppose this bill because I know the reams of regulation and red tape, the bailout funds, and the new bureaucracies won’t do much to prevent another financial crisis. In reality it will make it harder for your Main Street bank to compete with a twisted brew of New York firms and big government bureaucrats. It will begin the decline of community banking and in the process move the world’s financial capital from Wall Street to Washington. Most troubling, this bill will make it more difficult for hard working Tennessee families to find the credit they need to start a business, get a home loan, or even open a credit card.”

“For all of the new rules and regulations, this bill fails to get to the heart of the financial crisis we find ourselves in. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac go untouched. Large institutions gambled their investors’ dollars on the presumption of a taxpayer guarantee, and that gamble started a crisis in this country. Instead of making it clear that future action could be met with failure, we have given them a permanent bailout fund. This bill holds too few accountable and refuses to touch the institutions at the heart of the crisis. Congress has squandered a bipartisan opportunity to solve the problem with a partisan bill that invites the next meltdown.”

President Obama has told us that he meets once a month with his senior advisers to discuss the War in Afghanistan. Although the President has described winning in Afghanistan as essential, the events of the last ten days are worrisome to me. I am afraid that the President may have taken his eye off the ball when it comes to Afghanistan. I am also concerned that many of my Democrat colleagues in the House seem satisfied to let our vital mission in Afghanistan fail.

Republicans Blast Obama Admnistration on Net Regulation

Congressman
Blackburn criticized the Obama Administrations attempts to take control
of the internet. Blackburn pointed to the 290 members of Congress who
indicated to the chairman that Title II classification was "the wrong
way to go." She was among them.

She said reclassification would open
the door to a network neutrality policy that is the equivalent to the
"fairness doctrine for the Internet" and a "permanent antiquation" of
the Internet, which she said means that regulations can't keep up with
the pace of Internet innovation."

Congressman
Blackburn recently was quoted as saying "In the face of strong
bi-partisan opposition, the FCC has decided that
laws written to regulate Morse Code will now apply to megabytes. This is
a bureaucratic overreach of the first order. I am confident that my
colleagues and I will act to overturn it."

Blackburn Opposes FCC Internet Reclassification

"Laws Written to Regulate Morse Code Will Now
Apply to Megabytes"

Washington, Jun 17 -

Congressman Marsha Blackburn
(TN-7) commented today on the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC)
move to reclassify the Internet as a telephone service. The move opens
the door to federal regulation of the Web. The FCC's decision, which
relegates the Internet to antiquated regulations enacted under the
Telecommunications Act of 1934, is the first step in imposing "Net
Neutrality" regulations.

"In the face of strong bi-partisan opposition, the FCC has
decided that laws written to regulate Morse Code will now apply to
megabytes. This is a bureaucratic overreach of the first order. I am
confident that my colleagues and I will act to overturn it."

Blackburn sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and is
sponsor of HR. 3924, a bill that would prohibit the FCC from regulating
the Internet without explicit Congressional authorization.
