Sign Our Petition To President Obama

Response to our online petition has been terrific! If you haven’t already, I hope you will take a few minutes now and sign our Petition: “ Tell The President: Republicans Are the Party of K-N-O-W.” Our Republican Party is not backing down from the simple fact that the American people deserve to be informed and deserve to KNOW what is in the legislation that the Obama Administration is trying to push through Congress. We simply will not tolerate back room deals and legislation written behind closed doors with no discussion and consideration of what the American people want. Everyone should be able to read and discuss the new health care proposals. I want the President and Speaker Pelosi to know that you stand with me in this fight. Please sign the petition here.

Why We Need To Start Health Care Reform Over Again

On Sunday I had the opportunity to appear on Face The Nation. I wanted to relate to you some of my thoughts from that appearance. It was interesting to listen to Democrat Senator Kent Conrad state once again that if Democrats in the Senate move forward with using reconciliation to pass their bill in the Senate, they will be severely limited in the scope of the legislation that they can pass.

Obamacare: What We K-N-O-W

Yesterday, throughout the health care summit, Americans saw that Republicans are not the party of "no" but the party of K-N-O-W. We want the American people to KNOW what’s in these bills and how each line will affect them and their families. As we try and take back Congress this Fall, being the Party of KNOW will be important.

I think it is almost a badge of honor to be awarded "the worst person in the world" according to ultra liberal Keith Olbermann. Although, sometimes it is difficult to follow his rant, he apparently objected to my suggestion to the President that younger people should be permitted to privatize their Social Security accounts.

Imagine the political discourse if President Obama had said these words last month:

"My fellow Americans, the state of our Union is imperiled by unsustainable debt fed by spending from both parties for a political generation. It erodes the contract we have with our constituents through important entitlement programs.

I listened carefully to the President's state of the union speech. I hoped to hear him offer concrete solutions - especially for an economy in free fall. Instead he insisted that our economy was getting stronger. Let him convince the American people of that. He talked about the success of the stimulus legislation. Let him convince the American people that it has worked. He talked about all the tax cuts his administration has provided the American people. Let him convince the American people of that, when many of them no longer have pay checks at all.

The Tennessean reports on what the Tennessee Congressional delegation would like to hear the President say tonight. According to the article Rep. Marsha Blackburn called for the use of incentives for private business and individuals. Among her suggestions are giving people a three-month break from federal withholding taxes, eliminating the capital gains tax, and extending tax breaks approved during the administration of President George W. Bush.

1/22/2010 - It's Time to Re-Center the Health Care Debate

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, at her weekly press conference, said” in its present form, without any change, I don’t think it’s possible to pass the Senate bill in the House.” The Speaker’s frank assessment coupled with the victory on Tuesday by Scott Brown should make it pretty clear to everyone that we need to re-center the health care debate.

1/19/10 - Congratulations to Senator Elect Brown

I want to extend my personal congratulations to Scott Brown for his amazing victory in the Massachusetts Senate special election. His win sends a strong message to the Obama Administration and to the Democrats in Congress. The people of Massachusetts were paying attention and the people of America are too.

This election was a referendum on the health care bill drafted in secret by President Obama and the Democratic leaders in Congress. The people of Massachusetts, one of only two states to have health care legislation in place, are aware of the failures of their state's health care plan. They know, as do the people of Tennessee, that government run health care will not work. Let's hope that the Democrats in Washington finally get the message. I know that Scott will be a powerful voice for the people of Massachusetts, making sure that their message is heard.

1/13/10 - We Are At War. Let's Treat It As Such

George W. Bush had it right when he said “we must be right 100% of the time.” Anything less than that and Americans will be facing a catastrophe unlike anything seen since 9-11. The terrorists only need to get it right once. I am deeply concerned with the handling of security issues by the Obama Administration. Not only have they gotten it wrong, but I don’t see them taking any steps to “get it right.”

From my family to yours - we wish you a blessed Christmas and happy holidays! As you celebrate this year, we hope you are surrounded by family and loved ones.

Although we face many problems, we have much to celebrate. Most of all, let us celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Please take a few minutes now to remember in prayer our brave military men and women, serving around the world to keep us safe at home.

Shortly after 1a.m. on Monday, -yes, that‘s right –1 a.m. while most Americans were sleeping -- Senator Harry Reid and the Democrat leadership in the Senate pushed a health care bill through the Senate. I can't call it health care reform, because it is not. It is legislation designed to have the government take over control of your health care. Don't let the rhetoric of the Democrats fool you. They tell you that this bill will put 30 million more Americans into the health care system. They tell you that this bill will do it by taxing only the rich, and eliminating fraud from Medicare, and cutting Medicare Advantage.

I am absolutely outraged to hear Democrats in Congress parrot what Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services, has said about the latest recommendations of Congress concerning women’s preventive health care measures.

Happy Hanukkah to our Jewish friends. As you begin the celebration of Hanukkah, I wanted to take a few minutes to wish you much joy and happiness as you enjoy the company of your loved ones. As you light the menorah and exchange gifts, I hope you will remember the friendship and affection that the people of Tennessee and the United States feel for the State of Israel and the Jewish people. Ours is a friendship forged from working together for the benefit of mankind. May you enjoy peace and love this holiday season.
