I applaud the decision of the United States Supreme Court that the Second Amendment applies equally to Federal, State, and local governments. The Court ruled in a 5-4 opinion that firearms are “essential for self-defense.”

The Court found that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to gun ownership and restricts the ability of states and local governments to ban all handguns.

I am pleased that the Court helped underscore what Americans already know – our right to keep and bear arms is absolute. As the founders understood, the individual’s right to self protection is endowed by the creator, not by the government.

I am happy to see that five of our Supreme Court Justices recognized the true intent of the 2nd Amendment. I an very concerned about the leanings of the rest of the Court. Any student of history should be able to see what ultimately happens when a people have their means of defending themselves taken away from them.

Congresswoman Blackburn, I agree, Both the right of self protection, and the right to bear arms, are most certainly fundamental rights. The right of self defense, and the right to bear arms, must never go away, for if they do, disaster will most definitely strike here in America.

When criminals are breaking down ones front door, it's too late to call the police. The homeowner will either be a winner or a victim. The winner will be the gun owner. Back when the constitution was written the bad guys wore red coats. Now it's impossible to tell the good from the bad until a citizen is attacked...Hurray for the Supreme Court, at leat the majority of them.

I, too, am thrilled with this decision. But, like Rush Limbaugh commented, I'm not so thrilled that this was a 5-4 vote. Had the SCOTUS actually been voting along the lines of the Constitution, it should have been a 9-0 vote. We truly are, as Rush said, hanging on by a thread to our freedoms.
