On Sunday I had the opportunity to appear on Face The Nation. I wanted to relate to you some of my thoughts from that appearance. It was interesting to listen to Democrat Senator Kent Conrad state once again that if Democrats in the Senate move forward with using reconciliation to pass their bill in the Senate, they will be severely limited in the scope of the legislation that they can pass. Yesterday, throughout the health care summit, Americans saw that Republicans are not the party of "no" but the party of K-N-O-W. We want the American people to KNOW what’s in these bills and how each line will affect them and their families. As we try and take back Congress this Fall, being the Party of KNOW will be important. I think it is almost a badge of honor to be awarded "the worst person in the world" according to ultra liberal Keith Olbermann. Although, sometimes it is difficult to follow his rant, he apparently objected to my suggestion to the President that younger people should be permitted to privatize their Social Security accounts. Imagine the political discourse if President Obama had said these words last month: "My fellow Americans, the state of our Union is imperiled by unsustainable debt fed by spending from both parties for a political generation. It erodes the contract we have with our constituents through important entitlement programs. (read more)
